Sophia completed her certifications in Vinyasa Yoga at Xploreyoga, Newark, CA and in Rocket Yoga at Asta Yoga, San Francisco, CA, and is proficient in Power Yoga, Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga, CrossFlow, and Bikram Yoga.
She is the second youngest in a family of nine. Sophia immigrated to the United States in 1991. She was very focused on her studies and graduated with a degree in molecular biology and biochemistry and became a molecular biologist by trade.
The tolls of working full time, raising her three children, and putting many other responsibilities ahead of health, eventually led to severe weight gain. Sophia was twice her normal weight! To combat this, she first started walking, then jogging, and eventually running. She successfully lost all the additional weight. She later introduced yoga and gym workouts to compliment her new active and healthier life style.
Yoga has been a daily part of Sophia’s life since 2011. She found it an amazing mind-body connection and loves yoga deeply.
Yoga helped Sophia become an award winning runner, utilizing both, flexibility and strength. Sophia is an avid long distance runner. She has completed over 118 marathons and ultra-marathons (including Tahoe 200 miles mountain race from NV to CA). These marathons took place in various locations: All 50 United States and all seven continents. She participated in the six top world class marathons in Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York. Yoga compliments Sophia’s running passion quite well, and helps in her mind-body recovery and confidence building.
Sophia won the title of being the Fastest Frequent Marathoner in 2013 and, to date, is the only woman to have completed the Lake Tahoe Triple Dare (a 216-mile foot race, three times around the lake).
Sophia’s mission is to expand her practice and knowledge of yoga through continued education to help promote health and fitness for everyone in the community.
